In situ-laser-furnace TOF mass spectroscopy of C36 and the large-scale production by arc-discharge

Article Abstract:

A greatly improved synthesis of C36, obtained as its hydrides C6H4 and C36H6 and oxyhydrides C36H4O and C36H6O, using a high-temperature laser vaporization method and the conventional DC arc-discharge method is reported. It is found that doping metal catalysts such as Ni/Co or Ni/Y into the laser target graphic rod or the DC arc-discharge electrode, respectively, significantly enhanced the production of C36 species.

Scanning tunneling microscopy determination of single nanocrystal core sizes and correlation with mass spectrometry

Article Abstract:

It is shown that single alkanethiol passivated nanocrystals can be identified by core size in scanning tunneling microscopy (STM) experiments, by comparing the measured STM heights with a direct determination of the gold core sizes by mass spectroscopy. A histogram of nanocrystal heights revealed several peaks that correlated with distinct peaks in the mass spectrum.

Lithium affinity for DNA and RNA nucleobases. The role of theoretical information in the elucidation of the mass spectrometry data

Article Abstract:

The binding energy and the metalation site of lithium cation for the most stable tautomers of nucleic acid bases were analyzed by using 'hybrid' B3LYP density functional computations. It was indicated that the one tautomer, whose metal affinity value corresponded to the experimental measurements, was not the most stable one.
