DuPont's entry into the life sciences through DuPont Agricultural Enterprises in Wilmington, DE, has resulted in an additional $1 billion in revenue for the company. DuPont Agricultural's president, William F. Kirk, reported that the company was able to realize the added sales from his operation's recent moves. These include the acquisition of shareholdings in both Protein Technologies International (PTI) and Pioneer Hi-Bred International, a partnership with Griffin Corp. in the area of crop protection products and a 50-50 joint venture in Optimum Quality Grains with Pioneer.

Royster-Clark Inc is the largest independent fertilizer dealership in the US. The company acquired IMC Agribusiness from fertilizer giant IMC Global in the spring 1999. Included in the purchase were more than 200 Farmermarket retail outlets, North Carolina-based Rainbow division which consists of four granulation plants and IMC's Nitrogen division in Illinois and Ohio. Royster-Clark digested its new acquisition by streamlining distribution and creating a new flat management hierarchy headed by 15 managing directors.
