Interaction of the acid soap of triethanolamine stearate and stearic acid with water

Article Abstract:

Stearic acid and triethanolamine (TEA) in a molar ratio of 2:1 are combined aqueous solution at 80 degree C and then cooled to ambient temperature. The structure evolution of the resultant sample during storage when characterized by light microscopy showed that a lamellar liquid crystalline phase is formed when stearic acid and TEA solution are mixed at 80 degree C and multilamellar spheres of a few microns diameter are formed initially after cooling.

Monolayer characteristics of mixed octadecylamine and steric acid at the air/water interface

Article Abstract:

Mixed monolayers of stearic acid (SA) and octadecylamine (ODA) at the air/water interface were investigated. It was found that the higher interaction between SA and ODA molecules in the mixed monolayer is attributed to the possible formation of catanionic surfactant or to the acid-base reaction.

Acid soap and phase behavior of stearic acid and triethanolamine stearate

Article Abstract:

Stearic acid with triethanolamine (TEA) was prepared by mixing them above 80 degree C and then cooled to produce partially neutralized crystals of these materials. It was found that an acid-soap complex of 2:1 fixed stoichiometric ratio exists between stearic acid and TEA stearate.
