Metal particle size in silica-supported copper catalysts. Influence of the conditions of preparation and of thermal pretreatments

Article Abstract:

A systematic investigation of the size of copper metal particles supported on silica as a function of the preparation route and thermal treatments is presented. It was found that the classical incipient wetness impregnation method may produce metal particles as small as in samples prepared by cationic exchange.

Relevance of the drying step in the preparation by impregnation of Zn/SiO2 supported catalysts

Article Abstract:

A study is conducted to clarify the nature of the zinc phase present in Zn/SiO2 samples not only after calcination, but also after drying. It is found that after drying at 25 or 50 degree C, the supported zinc phase is an amorphous nitrate, whereas after drying at 200 degree C, it is almost already fully transformed into zinc silicate.

Metal particle size in Ni/SiO2 materials prepared by deposition-precipitation: influence of the nature of the Ni(II) phase and of its interaction with the support

Article Abstract:

Research was conducted to examine the impact of the parameters of the deposition-precipitation method used to prepare Ni/SiO2 samples on the size of nickel metal particles using temperature-programmed reduction, thermogravimetry and transmission electron microscopy. Results demonstrate that the average metal particle size, which varies between 27 and 79 angstroms, depends on the behavior and the reducibility of the supported Ni(II) phase and on the extent of the interface between the supported Ni(II) phase and silica.
