Microcalorimetric study on micellization of nonionic surfactants with a benzene ring or adamantane in their hydrophobic chains

Article Abstract:

The study of the micellization of a novel family of nonionic surfactants poly(oxyethylene) glycol alkyl ethers of which one of the surfactants has adamantane and the other nonionic surfactants have a benzene ring in their hydrophobic chains is presented conducted by microclorimetry. The surfactants with benzene rings and adamantane groups have larger critical micelle concentration (cmc) values as compared to the surfactants with a methylene hydrophobic chain and the cmc values increase with the size of the groups.

Alzheimer amyloid [beta](1-40) peptide: Interactions with cationic gemini and single-chain surfactants

Article Abstract:

The effect of cationic gemini surfactant [C.sub.12][C.sub.6][C.sub.12][Br.sub.2] and single chain cationic surfactant dodecyltrimethylammonium bromide (DTAB) on the Alzheimer amyloid [beta] peptide aggregation behavior was studied. It was found that the addition of the monomers of [C.sub.12][C.sub.6][C.sub.12][Br.sub.2] and DTAB may cause the rapid aggregation of A[beta](1-40) and the fibrillar structure is disrupted again as the monomer concentration is increased.

Comparative studies on interactions of bovine serum albumin with cationic gemini and single-chain surfactants

Article Abstract:

A study is conducted by focusing on the interaction of cationic gemini surfactants with bovine serum albumin (BSA) using microcalorimetry, turbidity, steady-state fluorescence, and circular dichrosm. The spectra results show that the binding of dodecyltrimethylammonium bromide (DTAB) to BSA only promotes BSA unfolding and aggregation, whereas the secondary structure of BSA is possibly stabilized by a small amount of C(sub 12)C(sub 5)C(sub 12)Br(sub2).
