NC+, Gustafson sign seed treatment deal
Article Abstract:
NC+ has signed an agreement with Gustafson LLC for the use of Gaucho and Prescribe, two seed-applied corn insecticides. The insecticides, which share the active ingredient imidacloprid, are expected to reduce labor and application costs, as well as eliminate on-farm insecticide containers. NC+ decided to use Gustafson's insecticides because it has had succes with Gaucho on grain sorghum for protection against wireworms, seed corn maggots and fire ants.

Turning on the message
Article Abstract:
The FDA has approved Eden Bioscience' Messenger biopesticide, which uses the harpin protein technology. Messenger offers broad-spectrum control against bacteria, fungi and viruses by engaging the plant's defense systems before an actual pathogen attack occurs. The plant reacts as if a pathogen was present similar to the way a vaccine produces antibodies in humans. Plants treated with Messenger are also observed to undergo enhanced growth.
