New fluorimetric alkali and alkaline earth metal cation sensors based on noncyclic crown ethers by means of intramolecular excimer formation of pyrene
Article Abstract:
A new type of fluorescent reagents bearing two pyrenes connected via an amide linkage at the ortho position of the benzene ring at the end of the polyether was synthesized. The reagents' complexation with alkali and alkaline earth cations was studied using fluorescence spectrometry, flourescence lifetimes and H NMR spectrometry. Findings indicate that the reagents formed a 1:1 complex and that the order of complex formation constants was Ca2+ and Sr2+ to Ba2+, Mg2+ and Li+ for all reagents. H NMR spectra suggest that the complexes have helical structures.

New fluorescent "off-on" behavior of 9-anthryl aromatic amides through controlling the twisted intermolecular charge transfer relaxation process by complexation with metal ions
Article Abstract:
New fluorophores based on linear polyether N, N-[oxybis(3-oxapentamethylenxy)-2-phenyl]bis(9-anthracenecarbonamide) (3) and its analogues (2 and 4) were synthesized and their complexation properties with alkali metal and alkali-earth-metal ions were investigated by spectroscopy. The pseudocyclic form was supported of metal structure of 3, whereas the large conformational change 4 was not observed after the addition of metal ions.

On the magnetic alignment of metal ions in a DNA-mimic double helix
Article Abstract:
The structure and the electronic properties of an infinite periodic wire constituted of planar Cu-bridged hydroxypyridone chelator base pairs and of a similarly stacked finite dimer, are computed by spin-polarized DFT. The combination of interplane spin coupling and intraplane metal, hydroxypyridone makes this system very appealing for electronic and magnetic device exploitation.
