On the response of an ionic liquid to external perturbations and the calculations of shear viscosity

Article Abstract:

A study is conducted to analyze the reaction of the ionic liquid (IL) 1-hexyl-3-methylimidazolium chloride ([[HMIM.sup.+]][[Cl.sup.-]]) to various external perturbations, to compute its shear viscosity, and analyze the range of validity of linear response theory for these system types. Though none of the calculations attained the bulk hydrodynamic limit, the forecast of the shear viscosity of the bulk system at varying temperatures was consistent with the empirical data.

Evaporation of a sub-micrometer droplet

Article Abstract:

The process of evaporation of an spherically symmetric liquid droplet using a diffuse interface approach coupled to hydrodynamics is addressed. The time evolution of the basic thermodynamic quantities characterizing the system, that is, temperature, density, entropy, pressure, and chemical potential is presented.

Ordering in surfactant mixtures induced by polymers

Article Abstract:

Ternary mixtures of nonionic surfactant (C12E6, n-dodecyl hexaoxyethylene glycol monoether), polymer (PEG, polythene glycol), and water are studied. The explicit expression for the amount of PEG needed to order C(sub 12)E(sub 6) water solution is given and verified experimentally.
