Optical constant determination in the infrared of uniaxially oriented monolayers from transmittance and reflectance measurements

Article Abstract:

Optical constants of LB CdAr monolayers have been determined using experimental Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy. The optical constants by Kramers-Kronig relations were found to exhibit and interdependent relationship. This method has been found to be effective for ultrathin films and is limited by the quality of the experimental spectra. Eight and 10 CdAr monolayers deposited on calcium fluoride, zinc selenide and silicon substrates were analyzed to determine the in-plane refractive index.

Highly stable phospholipid unilamellar vesicles from spontaneous vesiculation: A DLS and SANS study

Article Abstract:

An investigation of the self-assembled structures of dimyristoyl phosphorylcholine/ dimyristoyl phosphorylglycerol/ dihexanoyl phosphorylcholine (DMPC/DMPG/DHPC) mixtures doped with Na(super +) is done using small-angle neutron scattering (SANS) and dynamic light scattering (DLS). The results concluded that the unilamellar vesicles are reasonably stable over extended periods of time and are unaffected by certain changes in lipid concentration, solution, solution ionic strength, and temperature.

Raman spectroscopy of phospholipid black films

Article Abstract:

The study used confocal Raman spectroscopy to investigate the molecular organization in black films of dimyristoyl phosphatidyl choline (DMPC). The spectra obtained by Raman spectroscopy allow to derive parameters associated with the chain packing and mobility and with the chain fluidity in the phospholipid monolayers and to quantify the difference in molecular ordering between the gel and liquid crystalline phases of DMPC.
