Optical surface properties and morphology of MgO and CaO nanocrystals
Article Abstract:
The optical absorption and photoluminescence emission properties of dehydroxylated MgO and CaO nanocrystals are analyzed with respect to particle morphology and size. The results have shown that in the case of morphologically well-defined MgO nanocubes variations in the next coordination of oxygen-terminated corners can effectively be examined by photoluminescence spectroscopy and thus allows for discrimination between 3-coordinated surface [O.sup.2-] in regular corner sites and kinks.

Infrared spectroscopy of single-walled carbon nanotubes
Article Abstract:
The infrared spectra of chiral and achiral single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTS) of different diameters and lengths are calculated using the spectral moment method. It is shown that the number of the infrared modes, their frequencies, and intensities depend on the length and chirality of the nanotubes.
