Partition coefficients of low-volatility solutes in the ionic liquid 1-n-butyl-3-methylimidazolium hexafluorophosphate-supercritical CO2 system from chromatographic retention measurements

Article Abstract:

Room temperature ionic liquid (RTIL) 1-n-butyl-3-methylimidazolium hexafluorophosphate ([bmin][PF6]) is employed as the stationary liquid in capillary column chromatography with supercritical carbon dioxide (scCO2) as the mobile phase. The findings indicate that SFC in open tubular columns provides a self-contained method to measure relative values of solute partition coefficients in biphasic RTIL-scCO2 systems.

The conventional method of the determination of enthalpy change at ion solvation in solutions: Is it correct?

Article Abstract:

The conventional method of the determination of enthalpy change at ion solvation in solutions by using the Born-Haber cycle gives incorrect values for this fundamental parameter. A new experimental method, namely, mass spectrographic method using field evaporation of ions from solutions (FEIS) that is free from the defects of the conventional one is presented.

Staging is more important than perturbation method for computation of enthalpy and entropy changes in complex systems

Article Abstract:

A study is conducted to examine ways to improve the computational ability in order to determine changes in both enthalpy and entropy. The findings indicate only subtle differences among the better perturbation methods and much larger improvements in relative accuracy with the use and careful selection of staged intermediates along the reaction coordinate.
