Quantitative description of the hydrophobic effect: The enthalpic contribution

Article Abstract:

A new method to evaluate the contribution of the hydrophobic effect is proposed that is based on regarding the hydration enthalpy as the sum of the nonspecific hydration enthalpy, specific hydration enthalpy and the hydrophobic effect enthalpy. The hydrophobic effect enthalpy values for the aliphatic alcohols are found to be close to the alkanes hydrophobic effect enthalpies.

Daunomycin binding to detergent micelles: a model system for evaluating the hydrophobic contribution to drug-DNA interactions

Article Abstract:

A model system for evaluating the hydrophobic contribution to drug-DNA interactions is used to study the interaction of d binding to various detergent micelles. The analysis reveals that the drug in the interaction changes the micelle size and also imposes order on the interior of the micelle.

Dynamic control of protein folding pathway with a polymer of tunable hydrophobicity

Article Abstract:

A new procedure to control the pathways of protein folding by using a thermally responsive polymer that varies its hydrophobicity concomitant with the protein structural changes is reported.
