A composite gold-silicon oxide surface for mesoscopic patterning
Article Abstract:
A composite surface comprising evenly distributed silicon oxide islands on a gold substrate is discussed. The composite surface is made by evaporation of a thin gold layer on oxide-free silicon, followed by thermal diffusion of Si through the Au layer, forming islands of SiO(sub 2) on the Au surface.
