Reactions of VX, GD, and HD with nanosize MgO
Article Abstract:
Solid-state MAS nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy is used in studying the room-temperature reactions of chemical warfare agents VX, GD and HD with nanosize MgO. The latter compound is an example of inorganic oxide particles which are being tested as reactive adsorbents for the decontamination of chemical warfare agents. Results indicate that the three gases hydrolyze on the surface of the MgO nanoparticles. VX yields ethyl methylphosphonic acid and methylphosphonic acid (MPA) while GD produces GD-acid and MPA. HD reduces to thiodiglycol and divinyl sulfide.

Photodecomposition of adsorbed 2-chloroethyl ethyl sulfide on TiO2: involvement of lattice oxygen
Article Abstract:
Several experimental methods involving both a rutile TiO2(110) surface and powdered P-25 Degussa TiO2 were used to investigate the photodecomposition of chemisorbed 2-chloroethyl ethyl sulfide (2-CEES) on the TiO2 surface. It is found that photooxidation of 2-CEES occurred in the absence of gas-phase oxygen.
