Spontaneous spreading of liquid droplets on mixed alkalinethiol monolayers: dynamics of wetting and wetting transition

Article Abstract:

The static and dynamic wetting properties of mixed alkanethiols self-assembled monolayers on gold substrates are analyzed. The study indicates that measurements of the self-assembled monolayers surface composition, as carried out using X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, and the dynamics of the contact angle can be used to establish unambiguously a correlation between the surface properties at the microscopic scale and the wettability of the substrate.

Dynamics of spontaneous spreading on heteregeneous surfaces in a partial wetting regime

Article Abstract:

A study was conducted to identify an effective method for measuring spontaneous spreading of droplets on chemically heterogeneous substrates such as the n-octadecyltrichlorosilane (OTS) grafted silicon wafer. Findings show that dynamical wetting measurements provide good estimates of the surface coverage of partially OTS grafted silicon wafer. This measurement approach has been derived from the molecular kinetic theory of wetting and ellipsometry.

Structure of dithiothreitol monolayers on Au(111)

Article Abstract:

The properties and structures of dithiothreitol (DTT) monolayers adsorbed on Au(111) are studied. A structural model in which the majority of DTT molecules bind to the gold surface via two Au-S bonds is presented.
