Stability of self-assembled hydrophobic surfactant layers in water

Article Abstract:

The process of self-assembly of surfactants onto mica and the subsequent stability of those layers in pure water using contact angle measurements, surface force balance experiments and AFM imaging is investigated. The results state that when the hydrophobic monolayer is immersed in pure water it dissolves in water and rearranges to patches of bilayers or hemimicelles.

Investigation of micelle formation by fluorescence correlation spectroscopy

Article Abstract:

A study is conducted which shows that noncovalently bound dye molecules can be used as labels in single-molecule fluorescence experiments for the determination of aggregate formation in standard surfactant systems. The respective charges of the surfactant and of dye molecule are crucial for the effectiveness of the presented method.

Self-consistent-field prediction for the persistence length of wormlike micelles of nonionic surfactants

Article Abstract:

The persistence length is an important parameter in describing the flexibility/rigidity of wormlike micelles. Self-consistent-field theory (SCF) is used to evaluate the bending free energy of closed wormlike micelles that consists of nonionic surfactants in aqueous solutions.
