Structural changes in self-assembled monolayers initiated by ultraviolet light
Article Abstract:
The scanning tunneling microscope (STM) images and data showing in situ observations of unusual structural changes in self-assembled monolayers (SAMs) initiated by exposure to ultraviolet (UV) light is presented. The capability of STM to directly observe the effect of UV light on molecular structures is demonstrated and it might be useful in the examinations of UV-induced processes in other SAM systems.

Synthesis, characterization, and applications of dendrimer-encapsulated nanoparticles
Article Abstract:
The synthesis, characterization and applications of dendrimer-encapsulated nanoparticles (DENs) are discussed. The materials are synthesized by a template approach in which metal ions are extracted into the interior of dendrimers and then subsequently chemically reduced to yield nearly size-monodisperse particles having dimensions of less than 3nm.
