Structure and orientation of guest molecules
Article Abstract:
Solid state NMR was used to examine the geometries and orientations of guest molecules in kaolinite intercalation compounds of kaolinite/formamide, kaolinite/formamide-N,N-d2, kaolinite/N-methylformamide and kaolinite/N,N-dimethylformamide. The interlayer guest molecules were determined by quantitative analysis of the 29Si and 13C NMR spectra. Insights into the conformation of the guest molecules and hydrogen bonding interactions between the guest and host were revealed by the 13 C and 1H chemical shifts of the guest molecules.

Solid-state deuterium NMR studies of organic molecules in the tectosilicate nonasil
Article Abstract:
2H NMR spectroscopy was used to determine the dynamics of numerous organic structure-directing agents in the as-made zeolite nonasil. Trimethylalkyl-ammonium structure-directing agents were used to study the function of electrostatic interactions. There is strong evidence of powerful electrostatic interactions between the organic molecules and the zeolite structure. This is in contrast to the nonasil samples developed with electrically neutral amines where van der Waal forces are dominant.
