Surface-assisted transient displacement charge technique. I. Photoinduced charge transfer in self-assembled monolayers

Article Abstract:

Surface assisted photoinduced transient displacement charge (SPTDC) technique was developed to study light induced charge transfer in surface bound molecules and applied to investigation of self-assembled monolayers of 7-diethylamniocoumarin and 2,4-dinitrophenylamine. Shortening of the excited state lifetime of surface immobilized coumarin due to stimulated emission was observed in both fluorescence and dipole measurements.

Polyunsaturation in lipid membranes: Dynamic properties and lateral pressure profiles

Article Abstract:

The effect of unsaturation on single-component membrane properties, particularly the dynamic perspective and lateral pressure profiles across the membrane, is studied using atomistic molecular dynamics simulations. It is proposed that molecular composition of membrane influences the lateral pressure profile exerted on membrane proteins, which influence the structure and its activities.

Photokinetic analysis of PRODAN and LAURDAN in large unilamellar vesicles from multivariate frequency-domain fluorescence

Article Abstract:

A multivariate photokinetic analysis of the membrane phase dependence of 6-propionyl-2-dimethylaminonaphthalene (PRODAN) and 6-dodecanoyl-2-dimethylaminonaphthalene (LAURDAN) photokinetics in DMPC vesicles is described. The primary difference in the emission of the two probes is found to be the prominence of the charge-transfer species in the LAURDAN emission.
