Surface characterization of three marine bacterial strains by Fourier transform IR, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, and time-of-flight secondary-ion mass spectrometry, correlation with adhesion on stainless steel surfaces
Article Abstract:
The surface chemical composition of three marine bacterial strains was investigated by combining Fourier transform IR spectroscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), and time-of-flight secondary-ion mass spectrometry (ToF-SIMS). The three Gram-negative marine strains appear to bear distinct functions on their core shells, the presence of carbohydrates in the external layers of the D0 1 micro-organism was demonstrated, whereas DA is enriched in sulfates and D4 1 in proteins.

Temperature scanning FTIR analysis of hydrogen bonding states of various saccharides in amorphous matrixes below and above their glass transition temperatures
Article Abstract:
Temperature scanning Fourier transforms infrared, TS-FTIR, spectroscopy of various amorphous sugar matrixes is conducted to investigate the relationship between the glass transition temperature [T.sub.g] of an amorphous sugar matrix and the nature of the hydrogen bonds in the matrix. The results indicate that the [T.sub.g] value for an amorphous matrix of sugar depends mostly on the lower limit of the degree of formation of hydrogen bonds for holding the matrix.

A comparative study of carboxy myoglobin in saccharide-water systems by molecular dynamics simulation
Article Abstract:
Dynamic simulations are used for analyzing room-temperature on a system containing carboxy-myoglobin, water and maltose molecules. The result shows that in spite of a larger number of water molecules hydrogen-bonded to the protein in sucrose and maltose, the fraction of water molecules bound both to the protein and the sugar is lower in these systems with respect to the trehalose-water system.
