Synthesis and formation mechanism of nanoneedles and nanorods of manganese oxide octahedral molecular sieve using an ionic liquid

Article Abstract:

Single-crystalline cryptomelane-type manganese oxide octahedral molecular sieve (OMS-2) nanoneedles and nanorods were prepared by a solution phase approach in the presence of 1-n-butyl-3-methylimidazolium tetrafluoroborate ([BMIM]B[F.sub.4]). Based on the redox reaction of Mn[Cl.sub.2] and KMn[O.sub.4] in the mixed solvents of water and ([BMIM]B[F.sub.4]), the formation of OMS-2 nanoneedles followed the rolling mechanism with lamellae as an intermediate, but direct reaction of KMn[O.sub.4] with ([BMIM]B[F.sub.4]) resulted in the formation of OMS-2 nanorods with small diameters.

A novel method for the preparation of a highly stable and active CdS photocatalyst with a special surface nanostructure

Article Abstract:

A new method for the preparation of a CdS photocatalyst is described, where freshly prepared CdO obtained by decomposing cadmium acetate at a certain temperature is subjected to thermal treatment in the presence of H2S. This results in the formation of a highly stable and active CdS photocatalyst and this CdS is stable against both air oxidation and photcorrosion during a photcatalytic reaction.
