Slowakische Chemie w chst um 2% pro Jahr
Article Abstract:
The Slovak ministry of economics expects the country's chemical and pharmaceutical industry to grow by 1.9-2.5% annually until the year 2005. In 1997 the manufacturing output of the chemical and pharmaceutical industry grew from Sk 90.73bn to Sk 94.35bn, which is 19.6% of the total Slovak industrial output. Exports are expected to grow by 2.7-3.3% from Sk 59bn (27.1% of total Slovak exports) in 1997. However, restructuring and modernisation measures are necessary to strengthen the industry's international competitiveness. In 1997 Sk 13.6bn was invested in the chemical industry, of which 70% in machinery and equipment. 75% of this was imported. The most promising segments are said to be chemical fibres, plastics, bitumen, adhesives, rubber products, organic chemicals and mineral fertiliser. The main export market so far is Czechia, while exports to the EU increased and sales to Russia were static.
