TFESA: a 'new' superacid
Article Abstract:
A superacid called 1,1,2,2-tetrafluoroethane sulfonic acid (TFESA), developed by DuPont FluoroIntermediates, has a lower vapor pressure than triflic acid which makes the compound easier to handle and more environmentally safe. Its hydrogen substituent also facilitates proton NMR analysis of reaction mixtures and products. The various applications of TFESA, such as its catalytic properties in ionic liquids, are discussed.
