Thermodynamics, orientational order and elasticity of strained liquid crystalline melts and elastomers
Article Abstract:
A microscopic polymer liquid-state theory is developed for the structure, thermodynamics and mechanical properties of strained liquid crystalline elastomers. The theory predicts that deformation in the liquid crystalline state results in an increase of the amplitude of density fluctuations, which becomes more pronounced as chain degree of polymerization and segmental density are decreased.

Solid-state photodimerization kinetics of alpha-trans-cinnamic acid to alpha-truxillic acid studied via solid-state NMR
Article Abstract:
The results from (super 13)C cross-polarization magic angle spinning solid-state NMR experiments focusing on the Johnson, Mehl, Avrami, and Kolmogorov model of phase transformation kinetics applied to the system is presented. The findings conclude that this reaction follows one-dimensional growth with a decreasing nucleation rate.
