Two types of protein hydration measured by dielectric dispersion in the gigahertz region, and effects of anesthetics

Article Abstract:

The number of the strongly bound water molecules (N(sub s)) and the weakly bound water molecules (N(sub w)) bound to bovine serum albumin (BSA) are estimated by the microwave impedance dispersion to understand the effect of a volatile anesthetic halothane on the protein hydration. The increase of conductance above 1.0 nM halothane indicates unfolding of the protein, exposing polar moieties to water, thus increasing the ion concentration.

Directed assembly of binary monolayers with a high protein affinity: Infrared reflection absorption spectroscopy (IRRAS) and surface plasmon resonance (SPR)

Article Abstract:

Infrared reflection absorption spectroscopy (IRRAS) and surface plasmon resonance (SPR) techniques are used to investigate human serum albumin (HSA) binding to binary monolayers of zwitterionic dipalmitoylphosphatidylcholine (DPPC) and cationic diactadecyldimethylammonium bromide (DOMA). The two components in the monolayers deliver through lateral reorganization to form multiple interaction sites favorable for protein binding.

Effects of pyrophosphate ions of protein adsorption onto calcium hydroxyapatite

Article Abstract:

The effects of pyrophosphate ions on the adsorption of proteins onto calcium hydroxyapatite (Hap) are examined by using typical proteins of bovine serum albumin (BSA), myoglobin (MGB) and lysozyme (LSZ). The results of the zeta potential for all the protein systems have supported the modes of protein adsorption.
