US: ISOPHORON BY DEGUSSA-HULS

Article Abstract:

German Frankfurt-based Degussa-Huls, which with its Creanova division claims to be the world's leading producer of isophoron, has raised its production capacity for the paint raw material to more than 75,000 tpy by bringing on stream a new 25,000-tpy facility in Mobile, Alabama. In spring 2000 the Degussa-Huls subsidiary Phenolchemie GmbH & Co KG is to bring on stream a phenol production facility at the US plant.

GERMANY/US: BAYER, PARADIGM GENETICS R&D DEAL

Article Abstract:

In the development of new herbicides, Bayer AG is to use the knowhow of Paradigm Genetics Inc. of Raleigh, North Carolina in the field of genetic decoding of weeds. The deal is worth up to US$ 40mn for the US company. In 1998 Bayer already signed two other cooperation agreements involving genetic technology in plant production.

GERMANY: BASF RAISES PHOSGENE PRODUCT CAPACITY

Article Abstract:

By mid-2000 BASF is raising the production capacity for chloroformiates in Ludwigshafen by 8,000 tpy. Thus the plant's production capacity for chloroformiates, acid chloride and alkyl chloride rises to 40,000 tpy. The chemicals are used in the production of organic peroxide, plant protection agents, pharmaceuticals, cosmetics and paper chemicals.
