Unusual solvent effect on a S(sub N)2 reaction. A Quantum-mechanical and kinetic study of the menshutkin reaction between 2-methylbenzimidazole and iodomethane in the gas phase and in acetonitrile

Article Abstract:

A study to investigate the quantarization reaction between 2-amino-1-methylbenzimidazole and iodomethane in the gas phase and in liquid acetonitrile was conducted. The results included the identification and thermodynamic characterization of the relevant stationary species, the rationalization of the mechanist role played by the solvent and the amine group adjacent to the nucleophile nitrogen atom, and the proposal of alternative paths on the modeled potential energy surface.

A room-temperature ionic-liquid-templated proton-conducting gelatinous electrolyte

Article Abstract:

The sol-gel process of alkoxysilane in the presence of room-temperature ionic liquid synthesized proton-conducting electrolytes. The thermochemical and electrochemical properties of the obtained electrolytes make them useful materials in various electrochemical devices including batteries, fuel cells, sensors and electrochromic windows.
