Use of attenuated total internal reflection-Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy to investigate the adsorption of and interactions between charged latex particles

Article Abstract:

The adsorption of 67-, 190-, and 1000-nm-diameter carboxylated latex particles onto hydrophobic and hydrophilic surfaces, from aqueous dispersions of these particles that contain different concentrations of sodium chloride, are investigated, in situ, by attenuated total internal reflection-Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy. Adsorption of the carboxylated latex particles onto the substrates in a given sample increased exponentially with time and then leveled off to a plateau value (A(sub exp)).

Dihexadecyl phosphate monolayer supported Ru(bpy)3]2+ crystallites investigated by near-field scanning optical microscopy

Article Abstract:

Research is presented examining the dependency of nanocrystallites on the phase and packing density of the monolayer under which they are formed. Near-field scanning optical microscopy provides insights into microcrystallization of cationic ruthenium complexes under dihexadecyl phosphate monolayers.

Surface modification of silicon nanocrystallites by alcohols

Article Abstract:

Issues concerning functionalization of Si-nc by 1-undecanol (UD-OH), 1-hexadecanol (HD-OH), 1-octanol (OC-OH) and 1,12-dodecanediol (DD-(OH)2) are discussed. Si-nc react with UD-OH, HD-OH, OC-OH and DD-(OH)2 to form alcohol capped Si-nc.
