Investigation of the thermotropic behavior of isomer mixtures of diacyl arginine-based surfactants. Comparison of polarized light microscopy, DSC, and SAXS observations
Article Abstract:
The thermal behavior of the novel diacylglycerol arginine-based surfactants is studied by DSC, PLM, and SAXS in the dry state. The presence of microphase separation of isomers in the lyophilized samples with miscibility after melting is suggested and the lamellar distance obtained for the third scan is used to study the molecular conformation on 1212RAc and 12RAc12 compounds.

Local heterogeneity for a [Eu.sup.3+]-doped glass evidenced by time-resolved fluorescence spectroscopy coupled to scanning near-field optical microscopy
Article Abstract:
Near-filed fluorescence spectroscopy was applied to an aluminate glass sample doped with [Eu.sup.3+] cation as a fluorescent probe of the chemical environment and local symmetry. The surface of the glass was found to be rather heterogeneous and it was found that two environments for the [Eu.sup.3+] cation exist.
