Structure of dehydrated Zn2+-exchanged zeolite X. overexchange, framework dealumination and reorganization, stoichiometric retention of monomeric tetrahedral aluminate

Article Abstract:

Fully dehydrated single crystals of Zn2+-exchanged zeolite X were prepared by ion exchange using an aqueous solution at 80 degrees Centigrade resulted in over-exchange due formally to the uptake of Zn(OH)2. As the temperature rose to 400 degrees Centigrade, evacuation caused the zeolite framework to lose aluminate and to reconstruct itself to become enriched in silicon. Moreover, the zeolite has lost its long-range Si/Al ordering, leading to the change of space group from Fd3 to Fd3m. Some, perhaps all, of the lost aluminate have been retained to fill sodalite cavities with Zn7-(HAl04)10+ and similar clusters somewhat poorer in Zn2+ and richer in H+.
