Avermectin biosynthesis
Article Abstract:
Relatively few microbial products possess anthelmintic activity, and the anthelmintic market is dominated by synthetic compounds. Avermectins exhibit potent antiparasitic and broad-spectrum activity against nematode and arthropod parasites, and are capable of modulating gamma-aminobutryic acid-gated chloride channels in vertebrate neurons. The current understanding of avermectin biosynthesis is described, along with the way that certain components of natural avermectins are produced by controlling the avermectin biosynthetic pathway.

Biosynthesis of erythromycin and rapamycin
Article Abstract:
The macrolide antibiotics erythromycin and rapamycin are the most thoroughly investigated aliphatic polyketides at a genetic level. Rapamycin was isolated in 1975 from the Streptomyces hygroscopicus species, and its structured was determined by X-ray crystallography in 1978. Erythromycin A was isolated from Saccharopolyspora erythraea in 1952. The biosynthesis of erythromycin and rapamycin is described.
