Carbide and nitride overlayers on early transition metal surfaces: preparation, characterization, and reactivities
Article Abstract:
The chemical reactivity of carbide-modified surfaces is considerably different from that of the parent bulk carbide of the substrate metal. The carbide/nitride overlayers have catalytic properties. The reactivities of carbide/nitride systems differ among substrates. The reactivities of bulk carbides or nitrides can be modeled using the microstructural and chemical properties of carbide/nitride overlayers. Nonmetal ions should necessarily be occupying both surface and subsurface/interstitial sites in order to construct such a model.

Oxidative addition reactions of organoplatinum(II) complexes with nitrogen-donor ligands
Article Abstract:
A study was conducted on the mechanisms of oxidative addition reaction. Photochemical and thermal cleaving of chemical bonds in several group 14, 16 and 17 substrates were achieved through nitrogen-donor ligand oxidative addition to organoplatinum(II) complexes. The ligands electronic and steric attributes were found to enhance platinum(II) complex reactivity and platinum(IV) stability.
