Large clusters and colloids. Metals in the embryonic state
Article Abstract:
Ligand-stabilized colloids and clusters of gold, palladium and platinum atoms prepared via reduction of the metal salts in aqueous solution were characterized using high resolution transmission electron microscopy, X-ray analyses, Mossbauer and nuclear magnetic resonance determinations. Tests revealed that the novel colloid and cluster species functioned as efficient heterogenous catalysts in different reactions allowing more extensive monitoring of catalytic processes. In addition, further physical and chemical applications for the metal clusters were presented.

Theoretical models of exchange interactions in dimeric transition-metal complexes
Article Abstract:
It has been possible to combine the model treatment and ab initio calculations for several highly symmetric dimers of (t(sub 2g))(super n) transition-metal ions. It is suggested that a new era is now emerging in which correlated ab initio calculations will be able to identify the fine structure of the exchange manifolds.
