Mechanisms and kinetics of self-assembled monolayer formation
Article Abstract:
This review examines the principles and mechanisms involved in the adsorption of amphiphilic surfactant molecules at interfaces. Research demonstrates that self-organization of adsorbed molecular monolayers occurs in several steps such as bulk solution transport, surface adsorption, and two-dimensional organization of the substrate via nucleation and epitaxial growth processes.

Thermodynamics of the size and shape of nanocrystals: epitaxial Ge on Si(001)
Article Abstract:
Thermodynamics of the growth of epitaxial strained nanocrystals of Ge on Si(001) in relation to multiple shapes, size distribution, metastable species, and transient behavior is reviewed. Relevant models to describe biogenic and solution-phase synthesis, Ostwald ripening and surface stabilization, and thermodynamic interactions of nanocrystals are discussed.
