New perspectives in the chemistry and biochemistry of the tunichromes and related compounds
Article Abstract:
An update on the chemistry and biochemistry of tunichromes, a series of compounds derived from the blood cells of ascidians, is presented. It seems probable that there is a link between tunichromes and 3,4,5-trihydroxyphenylalanine and 3,4-dihydroxyphenylalanine in terms of the origin of the ascidian compounds. The study of vanadium chemistry may also shed light on the chemical and biological functions of the tunichromes.
