Novel syntheses of 4-alkyl-2(5H)-thiophenones and 8-phenylimino-1,2,4-triazolo(5,1-c)-1,4-thiazines

Article Abstract:

Convenient syntheses of alkoxypyrroles and of esters and gamma-lactones that are alpha-beta unsaturated have been carried out by reactions of triazole-stabilized allene triazole dianions with alkyl halide, aldehyde, ketone and imine electrophiles. Novel syntheses have been carried out to yield 4-alkyl-2(5H)-thiophenones and 8-phenylimino-1,2,4-triazolo(5,1-c)-1,4-thiazines. Intermediates include 1,2,4-triazole-stabilized allene anions. X-ray crystallography has been used to confirm structures.

Structure bifurcation in containerless low-temperature syntheses of solid state niobium chloride compounds from lanthanoid atoms: an X-ray absorption and ab initio EXAFS analysis

Article Abstract:

A preparation method for solid state chlorometallates has been developed. It involves reductive dechlorination of solvated niobium pentachloride with vapor of nominally free atoms of samarium and erbium. No crystal could be isolated, so local order around the Nb atom was investigated by X-ray absorption and EXAFS spectroscopy. Two condensation patterns proposed were chlorine edge-shared aggregation, which was preferred for Er, and face-shared condensation patterns, from Sm.

Syntheses and Fe(II)/Fe(III) equilibria of the new multidentate ligands pyridine-2-phosphonic-6-carboxylic acid and 2,6-pyridinediphosphonic acid for the use of their iron chelates as catalysts for the oxidation of H2S to S8 by air

Article Abstract:

The multidentate chelating agents pyridine-2-phosphonic-6-carboxylic acid (2PP6C) and 2,6-pyridinediphosphonic acid (2,6PDPA) facilitate iron sulfur recovery and the chelation of iron for the oxidation of hydrogen sulfide by air. The iron chelates are stable enough to prevent precipitation in solutions alkaline to a pH of 10, with little degradation of the catalyst.
