Room-temperature ionic liquids. Solvents for synthesis and catalysis
Article Abstract:
Room-temperature ionic liquids have drawn the interest of both researchers and industrialists due to their potential use as a solvent. These compounds, first introduced in 1914, have the ability to remain liquid under below room temperature. These liquids are also highly compatible with a number of chemical reagents, making them one of the most useful solvent for organic and inorganic materials. These highly polar substances are also known for their immiscibility, rendering them a potent alternative for two-phase systems.

Carceplexes and hemicarceplexes
Article Abstract:
The container compounds, carceplexes and hemicarceplexes, have inspired a diverse discipline of research. First synthesized by Nobel Laureate Donald J. Cram, the compounds function as novel microreaction chambers and stabilize highly reactive species. Carceplexes support conjugation between bridgehead phenolic groups and the aryl pi-system. In addition, the 1H nuclear magnetic resonance spectra of carceplexes can be utilized as a diagnostic tool.

Expanded porphyrins and their heterologs
Article Abstract:
Developments in expanded porphyrin research are reviewed. Previous studies demonstrate the versatility of macrocyles and such porphyrin coordination properties as lanthanide cation coordination and anionic recognition. The organic chromophore also exhibits excellent optical properties which can be modified. Furthermore, porphyrins do not suffer from severe aggregation which is characteristic of phthalocyanines.
