The solubility of gases and vapours in ethanol - the connection between gaseous solubility and water-solvent partition
Article Abstract:
Solubility of gases and vapors in ethanol has been studied. The relationship of gaseous solubility to water-solvent partition was of interest. The Ostwald solubility coefficients for solutes in water and ethanol were combined to find a value for partition. Sixty-four values have been correlated using the derived solvation equation. Ethanol and water as solvents are equally strong hydrogen-bond bases. Ethanol is far weaker as a hydrogen-bond acid.

Solvent effects on electrical conductivities of sodium tetraphenylboride in water-methanol, ethanol, and 2-propanol mixed solvents
Article Abstract:
The size and shape of molecules of sodium tetraphenylboride (STPB) change in alcohol and water solvents, altering the conductivity of the solutions. The molar conductivity of STPB at 298 degrees K is 70 in pure water, 82 in pure methanol, 35.5 in pure ethanol, and 16.5 in pure 2-propanol. Conductivity falls as the molecules increase in size and become more spherical.
