New color printers introduced in December
Article Abstract:
Printer manufacturers introduced new computer color printer products in Dec 1999, in what appears to have been a good business strategy. This is because the seasonal Christmas sales campaign for printers in 1999 corrected upward to 1.5 million units. Seiko Epson introduced four products, Canon introduced seven models, Hewlett-Packard Japan launched three products while NEC released two models. Ads for these new product lines of color ink jet printers primarily stressed their higher picture quality and faster speeds.

In Japan, color ink-jet printers improve dramatically as prices fall
Article Abstract:
Sales of color ink-jet printers in Japan have almost doubled since 1996, but the current economic slump has caused sales to decline 10% in the first half of FY1998 compared with the same period in the previous year. A recovery in the second half is expected to push sales to 2.8 million units for the entire FY1998, about the same level as the previous year. Seiko Epson Corp remains the dominant player, capturing more than half of the market in 1998.
