E-commerce software

Article Abstract:

A buyer's guide of 12 electronic commerce software products is presented. Each offering contains a listing for company; platforms; multiple stores; customizable forms; time-based offers; cross-selling/up-selling; personalization tools; sample stores; design templates; store extension/cutomization tools; import product/customer database; catalog search tool; payment processing; sales tax calculation; shipping options; reporting tools; starting price; phone; and URL. The article also discusses how most companies seeking electronic commerce software aim to enhance the commerce features of their existing Web sites. Companies not already operating a Web site can choose from among products that handle complete Web site management from a single interface. Simple setup and maintenance are the most important considerations for these companies. Flexibility also is crucial for companies that will alter their product catalog and design. XML also will emerge as a key force in encoding product information.

Audio software that does it all

Article Abstract:

Cakewalk Music Software's Cakewalk Pro Audio for Windows 4.0 emerges ahead of the crowd in a review comparing six MIDI/digital audio software packages. The $399 package is less expensive than most of the competition, while offering a full range of editing features, excellent sequencing and good notation. Another top pick in the review is Opcode Systems' $995 Studio Vision Pro 3.0, a Macintosh product. The software combines several programs that smoothly work together in a production environment. While many professionals back this product, which is complete in its music/audio offerings, it is a costly investment that requires a fast computer, plenty of RAM and a digital audio card. None of the six packages reviewed is considered a poor choice.
