AT&T's Toil and Trouble: The Struggle to Restore a Battered Image

Article Abstract:

Numerous complaints face AT&T regarding the installation of WATS, 800 and personal lines. Prompted by this condition the FCC is now monitoring these problems. A strike force was formed in February 1984 and a reduction of complaints is predicted by the company. The breakup of Bell Telephone in January 1982 is a contributing factor in installation problems. The result of this reorganization may be felt for five years. A graph showing backlogs by WATS, 800, and personal lines is provided.

Many Executives and Managers Resist Computers - Can Anything Be Done to Turn This Around?

Article Abstract:

A recent study conducted by the Omni Group found a strong resistance among managers toward computers. Complaints include boredom, lengthy time required for proficiency and questionable increases in productivity. Most managers delegate computer tasks to support staff, which may be a result of vendor marketing techniques emphasizing office personnel. A change in management attitudes may have a positive impact on the office automation market.
