Fast, small, smart
Article Abstract:
The Akia Tornado TX 266 from Akia Computer has a 266MHz Pentium processor with MMX, but weighs a mere five and a half pounds. The computer comes equipped with a 13.3-inch active matrix color screen, 64MB of RAM, 4GB hard disk drive and 20x CD-ROM drive. Rounding out the package is a floppy drive which can be operated externally or inside the flexbay of the computer. The main attraction of the Akia Tornado TX 266 is its light weight that does not compromise its performance. The unit features nearly every major item a user would wish to have on a notebook. With 64MB of RAM expandable to 128MB, the user has the ability to multitask, performing a videoconference from a hotel room, for example. In operation, the unit was delightful in every way. The system ran quietly, even when the cooling fan was operating. The keyboard was also quiet, silent enough to use in a library, and yet also easy to type on. No problems arose when loading programs such as Corel WordPerfect Suite 8.
