From Plan to Payoff in 16 Weeks

Article Abstract:

A silver award winner for the 1984 Office Automation Awards contest is the Revenue Department of the Commonwealth of Kentucky. All personnel helped in determining the requirements. The decentralized system, selected and installed in four months, consists of four Wang Office Information Systems and processing systems and one stand-alone. Among the software now incorporated into the system are Visual memory-list processing (title) maintenance and report generation, Multiplan (financial planning), and Lexis research system. Future applications include graphics and electronic mail. Reductions in overtime and uncollected revenues have proved the system cost-effective.

'Here's Our Game Plan': Position Statements of the OA Majors

Article Abstract:

A representative cross section of office automation vendors were interviewed regarding their future plans. Two strategies emerged. Some companies provide one or two office automation (OA) products rather than integrated systems. Larger companies offer a broader 'top-down' approach and intend 'to develop networks of a wide variety of equipment to perform a variety of business functions.' Twelve manufacturers of OA equipment were surveyed, and a chart is provided detailing the 'current and committed offerings' from each vendor.

Coping with the Computer in the Open Plan

Article Abstract:

New technology means new problems for space planners. Automated systems require additional work space and increase cable problems. Open plan landscaping is threatened by new products. This impact is being dealt with by today's planners by changing designs to ease physical discomfort and mental strain. Individual climate control, subtle colors, and compact computers are among the new ideas being used to deal with these problems.
