Going undercover
Article Abstract:
Media organizations the Wall Street Journal and Dateline NBC have reported on apparent problems in the computer support sector relating to quality. Both news organizations found that there exists a widespread perception among the consuming public that vendors are not providing quality support services. However, it has not been pointed out that vendors provide free online support in the form of FAQs. Vendors should, perhaps, educate customers about the existence of alternative sources of service support, especially free online options.

Compaq support poised
Article Abstract:
Compaq Computer Corp's completed acquisition of Digital Equipment Corp in Jun 1998 is expected to boost computer support services, particularly in the information technology market. The acquisition further improves Compaq's service capacity since it earlier acquired Tandem Computer Corp in 1997. The integration enhances Compaq's drive to be a $50 billion market player by 2002 that can rank as one of the world's three largest technology companies along with Hewlett-Packard Co and International Business Machines Corp.
