The prospects for the economy are uncertain. Nevertheless, managers still must plan financial and operation strategies. Boise Cascade's financial planning is based on flexibility. The balance sheet is given the same emphasis as the income statement; debts are constrained. Operations personnel will be kept on the lean side, and emphasis will be placed on productivity and efficiency. The management of Boise Cascade's 7.6 million acres of timber has been computerized, resulting in a thirty-eight percent increase in yield.

Article Abstract:
In 1984, five million people are working at home. This is due in large part to telecommunications. There are advantages for mothers who need to stay home. Telecommunications allows more flexible hours. There are, however, drawbacks both for personnel and companies. Motivation, teamwork, and creativity are hard for managers to impart without face-to-face interaction. The prediction is that employees will not desert the office en masse.
