Microsoft looks to fill IT skills gap

Microsoft Corp has launched the Skills 2000 Initiative in an effort to help bridge the information technology (IT) skills gap. Citing a statistic that there are 190,000 vacant IT jobs in the US, the software giant's program is a three-pronged approach to address that problem. The first approach will focus on discovering skilled professionals and placing them within the Microsoft Solution Providers channel. The second approach will provide IT professionals with seminars to help them update their skills. The third approach will focus on training instructors.
