Records Automation

Article Abstract:

Good management of an automated information system includes keeping an updated set of clearly written office procedures that are available to all involved personnel. Initially, the parameters should be determined; the sequential steps may then be flowcharted. Narrative, outline, and playscript styles are described. The written draft should be checked for omissions and mistakes by all those involved. The final version is indexed and distributed. An audit should be performed at least annually.

Records Automation

Article Abstract:

Resistance by business to using outside services results from the attitude that the company's needs are unique or from the fear of appearing incompetent. Outside services should be considered for certain tasks including one-time projects, work for which high-technology equipment cannot be justified, and operations that have peaks and valleys. The services of consultants, vendors, service bureaus, temporary agencies and other organizations are described.
