Standard should unlock floodgates for 56Kbps modems for Internet downloads
Article Abstract:
A new international standard for 56Kbps modems and terminal adapters may lead to the increased sales of these devices. The development was spurred by the International Telecommunications Union's (ITU) move on Feb. 5, 1998, to include measures that will lead to the compatibility of 3Com Corp.'s x2 system and Rockwell International Corp.'s K56flex system as a part of its V.90 international standard for 56Kbps modems. The certification of the new standard is expected to be made by the ITU in September 1998.
