Strength of World's Economic Recovery Shows in Higher Electronic Sales
Article Abstract:
One hundred Japanese electronics companies were surveyed. For the 1983 fiscal year, the three top selling Japanese electronics companies were Matsushita, Hitachi and Toshiba. All had sales over two trillion yen. Thirty-eight electronics firms reached the 100 billion yen mark. At the same time, twenty-five companies either increased their sales by five percent or less or experienced sale decreases. Semiconductors and ICs were the main concern of firms in the second group of fifty companies. Tables showing the sales of the top fifty companies are included.

Electronic Cash Register, after Declining Sales, Look to Recovery in 1983
Article Abstract:
A study by the Venture Development Corporation indicates that there will be an increase in the sale of electronic cash registers (ECR). This increase is attributed to more sophisticated features and reductions in cost. It is predicted that all ECRs will possess communications capabilities by the mid 1980s. There are three levels of cash registers: low capability ECRs priced under one thousand dollars; medium capability ECRs priced between one thousand and two thousand dollars; high capability ECRs priced over two thousand dollars.

Manufacturers Face Five Major Challenges in the Electronic Cash Register Market

The results of a market research study indicate that the shipment of electronic cash registers (ECR) should have a six per cent annual increase over the next five years. ECR manufacturers are concerned with continued improvement in the economy, maintaining profitability and keeping up with technology.
