Article Abstract:
The Cryovac Division of W.R. Grace and Co. has developed a combination of powerful on-line computing and micrographics. By integrating the two areas the staff is able to quickly access valuable information. Besides online access to ordering information, the company uses micrographic technology for such items as customer correspondence, purchase orders, and shipping documents. A Kodak Oracle microfilmer is used. In a similar fashion, Selfix, Inc. computerized their material requirement planning (MRP) with an online and integrated system. Systems in Action
Article Abstract:
Despite its growing population, the city of San Jose, California has been able to decrease the size of its clerical staff since it began using a word processing system. The Wang OIS 140-III Shared Resource System became virtually an overnight success at City Hall, and it is responsible for streamlining the city's routine paperwork. The system is composed of twenty-eight peripherals (including workstations and printers) attached to one master unit. Various departments have found ways to individualize the system for their own use. Numerous specific examples of the system's use for City Hall are provided.
